In 2010 I started working on my first game that would be released at a little indie studio called 24 Caret Games. Retro/Grade was released in 2012 on PS3 and PC. 10 years later I decided to re-visit Rick Rocket and his ship and give him a next gen update. I've learned a lot in the decade since I started working in the industry, as well as great advancements in tools it felt like the time was right. (All the Retro/Grade art was hand painted in photoshop with a color normal spec workflow) Rick and his default skin were completed by the time I started on the project and he remained one of the only assets I didn’t touch through development. Although, I would create several unlockable skins for him. I also dusted off some animation skills that have been dormant the last several years.
